Pepsi Jesus | 2003

Hand painted plaster porcelain
8.5" x 2" x 2" each
Edition of 4 (six packs)

An edition of 24 statues of Jesus outfitted in the trademarked colours of Pepsi. The work acknowledges the modern day battle between Jesus and Santa Claus for popularity on December 25. Historically, the red and white colours we associate with Santa were popularized by Coca-Cola which, in turn, has meant Pepsi avoids using images of Santa in their adverts. The edition size corresponds to a case of pop, while the shape of the statue and the way in which the cloth wraps around Jesus reflects the design of the clear glass pop bottles of my youth.
