Dying Mouse (In the Style of Remington) is a small bronze sculpture that depicts a childhood event I have retold countless times, in which a mouse was killed in my country home by a toy suction cup dart with pins stuck through the rubber. Despite the endless retelling of the story, I now doubt it ever happened and was instead, the exaggerated tale of a young boy. In such a way the populist artist of the Wild West, Frederic Remington, helped propagate many of its legends – some truer than others and yet his ostentatious depictions have helped create a singular version of this era in history.
