Archive's neighbours include Tableau Vivant, which recently showed Edmonton expatriate Ryan Whyte's work (Feb 4-28) and Angell Gallery, where the art collective Fast Friends presented Custom Fit (Feb. 6-March 7) - decidedly hip work by local artists including Roger Carter, Ingrid Paulson, Marc Streifling and Shannon Wadsworth. The highlight of the exhibition was, for me, Mitch Robertson's Artist As Icon , a cabinet of six objects owned by the artist (a wallet, a plastic bird, a cookie jar...) along with multiple reproductions of each object cast in gypsum and dusted with bronze, on adjacent shelves. The reproductions were available for sale in a wry parody of the temporary on-site souvenir shops accompanying museum blockbuster shows such as those for Egon Schiele and Keith Haring.
