Mitch Robertson at the AGO

The three big windows down the side of the Art Gallery of Ontario's basement Art Rental Gallery are currently filled with row upon row of small, identical plaster buddhas - identical in form, that is, but garishly painted, their transcendental skins invariably painted gold, their robes turning up in every candy colour imaginable. This rainbow of meditative bonbons has been prepared and presented, for the engagingly "bauble-cious" price of only $39.95 each, by Mitch Robertson, a indefatigable young Toronto conceptualist who, in his own words, "uses his youth, good looks, and even his art in an effort to become an art celebrity, while mocking the very idea all the way to the top." Mitch's credo: "I want the entire art world to know me by 24, and to forget me by 30." The bright little buddhas might do the trick.
